the engineering studio will be involved in this project from planning to construction stages. We were involved in the design of all civil and structural engineering information including involvement in various sectional agreements (S104, S38 and S278).
Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS)
It was agreed with the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) to include a mixture of SuDS features such us attenuation basins, attenuation ponds, swales and permeable paving. The goal was to minimise flood risk off-site and to improve the quality of the water discharged to the existing ditches in area of high sensitivity.
Ground Modelling
Excavation costs were high due to the existing ground conditions. We carried out a cut and fill assessment to establish optimum levels for the main on-site highways and plots in order to reduce excavation costs.
Off-site S278 works
The off-site works consisted in a new junction into the site, minor works to the existing access highway and a 3-way roundabout. This was required due to the new traffic the new development would generate. All works were undertaken in accordance with Somerset County Council standards.
