the engineering studio were appointed to provide planning support for a detailed planning application. The site consisted of 128 dwellings and associated infrastructure.

Flood risk challenges

The site was a more vulnerable development in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and mostly felt in the Environment Agency (EA) Flood Zones 2 and 3. The site benefited from outline planning permission and 1D-2D hydraulic modelling was required to inform site levels and ensure the required standard of protection was provided. The engineering studio prepared all documentation require to support this application, including hydraulic modelling and Flood Risk Assessment (FRA)

Access highways and finished floor levels were set above maximum water levels in accordance with the EA requirements.

Flood Compensation was also required to ensure that any displaced water did not flood other areas not at risk of flooding.

The drainage solution consisted of SuDS features, such as swales and attenuation basins.
