We were appointed by Wainhomes to provide the civil and structural engineering design of their 150 dwellings scheme and by Wainhomes / South Gloucestershire Council to provide the design of the main infrastructure for a wider site. The engineering studio we also in charge of obtaining all legal agreements for drainage (S104) and highways (S38 and S278).

Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS)

The on-site drainage consisted of a system of conventional drainage that discharged surface water flows to a new attenuation basin, before the final connection to the Wessex Water drainage system

Challenging site levels

Existing ground gradients were significantly steep, therefore an earthworks exercise was carried out to improve existing ground levels. A ground modelling exercise was undertaken to establish the optimum site levels. Due to the existing ground conditions and changes in ground levels, the foundation design was a mixture of piled and strip foundations.

Main infrastructure works

The infrastructure works consisted of a new Spine Highway, new junction, new arm to roundabout, a new lane to an existing highway and a signalised pedestrian crossing. All works were carried out in accordance with South Gloucestershire Council standards and promptly received Technical Approval.

Assistance on site

Upon completion of the design works, we were appointed by the contractor to provide assistance during construction (ongoing).
