The engineering studio were instructed at detailed design stage to provide the design of all civil and structural engineering design. We were also in charge of obtaining all legal agreements for drainage (S104) and highways (S278).

Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS)

The drainage design consisted of a system of conventional pipe work and manholes which discharged surface water flows to several infiltration basins across the site. The foul water drainage network discharged to an adoptable pumping station.

Off-site S278 works

A new roundabout was designed by the engineering studio. This consisted of a 3-way junction to improve traffic conditions in the area. The highways design was carried out in accordance with West Berkshire Council standards and promptly received technical approval.

Ground conditions and foundation solution

Ground conditions were predominantly chalk and the majority of the site was considered to have moderate risk of karstic dissolution features. The engineering studio worked alongside a specialist contractor in order to design a site specific foundation solution consisting of a system of pile foundations and reinforced slabs.
